Film can be a really effective tool for self expression, confidence building and gaining transferrable skills and I have worked as a tutor and facilitator on a broad range of projects. I've worked with young people (13-17) in juvenile detention centres to create short films and animations about their experiences in and out of prison (Ridin' Pen) and also with women in the criminal justice system on a social media support platform for women coming out of prison and those serving community sentences. Free as a Bird included short films and audio pieces, digital stories and video advice for women adjusting to life after prison and dealing with issues such as children, finding work, finding support for addictions.

Other participatory projects include working with young adults with learning disabilities to create short films and making a campaign film with young people at risk of FGM as well as developing and producing ten short dramas for Channel 4 made by first time deaf filmmakers.
I have taught film in schools and am a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art and Kingston University. And for several years I was a guest tutor for Documentary Filmmakers Group teaching directing.
